Una de las alegrías más grandes del fin de año fue encontrarme con gran parte de mi familia. En un viaje de un día tuvimos la oportunidad de compartir por unas horas, un acontecimiento poco usual ya que vivimos en diferentes ciudades y países. El destino fue Barichara, pueblo colonial y patrimonio cultural de Colombia, ubicado en el departamento de Santander. A continuación compartiré algunas fotos de lugares emblemáticos y las alegres calles de este lindo pueblo.
One of the highlights of my holidays last year was to meet up with most of my family. In a one-day trip we had the chance to share for a few hours. Something very unusual since we live in different cities and countries. Our destination was Barichara, colonial village and cultural heritage of Colombia, located in Santander. Next I'll share with you some pictures of this beautiful place.

Barichara tiene un esquema de color muy agradable; colores ocre, tierra, rojizos y diferentes tonos de verdes y azul se apropian de las fachadas de este colorido lugar.

Barichara has a nice color scheme; earthy, ocher, red tones, whites and different shades of blue and green take over the facades of this colorful village.

Barichara se caracteriza, entre otras cosas, por una piedra especial que cubre sus calles, andenes, y construcciones, también se fabrican objetos decorativos y artísticos en este material.

Barichara is also known for a particular stone that covers its streets, walkways and facades. You can find artistic and decorative objects in this material as well.

When in Cancun : Vacation and Shopping / Viaje y Compras en Cancún, México.

Recently I had the chance to go to Cancun, Quintana Roo, México. The country that was my home for three and a half years of my childhood. It was really nice to hear mexican accents again, and bring back memories, specially with the food and handmade products. Anyway, Cancun is completely built for tourists, almost everybody speaks english and the visit is a guaranteed pleasure.

Recientemente tuve la oportunidad de viajar a Cancún, Quintana Roo, México. El país en donde viví tres hermosos años y medio de mi infancia. Fue lindo escuchar nuevamente en persona el acento mexicano, y evocar recuerdos con la comida y las artesanías. Por otra parte, Cancun está completamente acondicionado para el turismo, es una experiencia agradable garantizada.

I stayed at Marriott CasaMagna Hotel, practically a palace. The rooms were really comfortable, even the toiletries were deluxe. They had a beautiful view to the sea. The pool and jacuzzi seemed like taken from paradise. The poolside has access to a private beach, with white, clean sand and fresh water that moves vigorously until its waves break into a burst of bubbles. Also, there are four luxury restaurants, spa, gym, and a store where you can get your traveler's supplies.

Me quedé en el hotel Marriott CasaMagna, prácticamente un palacio. Las habitaciones son muy cómodas, tienen una vista hermosa hacia el mar e incluso los jabones son de lujo. La zona de la piscina y jacuzzi parece tomada del paraiso, y tiene acceso privado a una playa limpia, bellísima,  con arena blanca y agua fresca agitada por olas que dejan una suave espuma al romper. Además, cuenta con cuatro restaurantes de lujo, Spa, Gimnasio y una tienda con todo lo que se pueda necesitar.

Where to shop?:

I made my shopping properly and found a lot of hacks:
First of all, you can shop with dollars, but it is less expensive if you shop with Mexican pesos, so exchange them ASAP.

• Oxxo, 7 eleven & Mc. Donalds Were just in front of the hotel, you get to buy basics like water without the extra charge at the hotel.
• Plaza Kukulcan: Is the closest shopping mall to the hotels zone, it is a regular shopping mall, you can get almost everything.
• La Isla Shopping Village: It has stores such as Tiffanys & Co, Kate Spade, and everything an unlimited shoppahollic fashionista would desire. 
• Market 28: A popular, whimsical crafty market, where you can negotiate prices (but if you're foreign, they won't discount a lot of money anyway) Ps: Not all busses that say market 28 leave you actually there.
• Plaza Bonita: Next to market 28, another whimsical crafty market with more detailed products. From here I got an original handmade blouse by Chiapanecas, native women from Chiapas, Mexico.
• Walmart: If you want to know people's lifestyle, you've got to go to a regular supermarket, here I found a lot of my childhood candies, which you can only find n mexico. I'll share these with you in another post.
• SAM's: A popular wholesale department store in Mexico, you can only shop with a membership, but foreigns get a free 24 hour shopping pass with their passport, you can get food, drinks, beauty products and fragrances for a great price.

¿Dónde comprar?

Primero, debes saber que todo es menos costoso en pesos mexicanos que en dólares. Lo mejor es cambiar tu dinero. Ahora sí, una lista de los lugares para hacer tus compras:

• Oxxo, 7 eleven & Mc. Donalds: Están justo al frente del hotel, ahí se puede conseguir agua, y otros productos básicos, sin pagar de más en el hotel.
• Plaza Kukulcan: El centro comercial más cercano a la zona hotelera, un centro comercial normal en donde se puede conseguir de todo.
• La Isla Shopping Village: Tiene tiendas como Tiffanys & Co, Kate Spade, y todo lo que una Shopahollic Fashionista sin limites adquisitivos podría desear. es un lugar muy agradable también para pasear.
• Market 28: Un mercado artesanal, en donde se pueden negociar los precios. Llegar puede ser complicado, no todos los buses que dicen Market 28 llegan.
• Plaza Bonita: Está en la parte posterior de Market 28, Es un mercado artesanal con objetos más detallados. Aquí compré una blusa hecha a mano por chiapanecas, mujeres autóctonas de Chiapas, México (Después les muestro la blusa con más detalle).
• Walmart: Si quieres conocer de verdad como vive la gente en un lugar tienes que ir a los supermercados recurrentes, Aquí compraba snacks y fue donde encontré muchos dulces de mi infancia, que no se pueden encontrar fuera de México, y que mostraré en otro post.
• SAM's: un supermercado mayorista popular en México, requiere de membresía para comprar. Sin embargo, a los extranjeros se les da un pase por 24 horas presentando el pasaporte, puedes conseguir productos de belleza, alimentos, y fragancias a buenos precios.

In my days at Cancún I went to Isla mujeres (which means Women Island), It is named like that because when europeans discovered it, it had a lot of sculptures in shapes of women. I did snorkel in open sea, saw amazing fishes, corals and plants for a distance so long I couldn't imagine. An unbelievable experience.

En mis días en Cancún visité Isla Mujeres, llamada así porque cuando los colonizadores llegaron, encontraron muchas esculturas en forma de cuerpos femeninos. Fue un paseo increible, tuve la oportunidad de hacer Snorkeling en mar abierto, en una distancia tan larga que jamas me hubiera imaginado.

If you ever go to Cancun, I suggest you to use the bus, It is comfortable, safe, it is less than a dollar and you get to go to all the important places like ports, restaurants and malls.
Si vas a Cancun, te sugiero usar el bus para moverte en la ciudad, es cómodo, seguro, vale menos de un dólar y puedes ir a todos los lugares importantes, como puertos, restaurantes y centros comerciales.

Reno: I was at the biggest little city!

Hello Everybody!
I've been off for a few days but in the internet world it feels like forever, I was in this AMAZING trip to the States and I had a blast! 
Hola a todos! 
He estado fuera durante unos días, pero en el mundo de Internet se siente como una eternidad. Estuve en este viaje increíble a Estados Unidos y lo pasé muy bien!

I went Reno N.V. and stayed at the Circus Circus Hotel. God, it was a big hotel! it has a huge casino, also a kids casino -which is like a fair, the prizes are toys and plushies (yeah, I went there and won a teddy bear and a flower)- You can find restaurants, stores and a gym. It even had this shuttle-monorail-bus on the second floor, that moves you from tower to tower. It looks amazing from the street and also you get to see a bit of the city from it. It is a very fun hotel. Circus Circus takes like four blocks in the center of the city and is connected with other two big hotels: Silver Legacy and El Dorado. The service was really great, people were kind, fun and welcoming.
(Note: If you're staying at Circus Circus, have a dinner at the Steakhouse Restaurant, it is Amazing!)

Fuí a Reno N.V. y me alojé en el Circus Circus Hotel. Dios, ¡era un hotel grande! tiene un enorme casino, otro casino para niños - El cual es como una feria, los premios son juguetes y peluches (sí, fui allí y gané un osito y una flor de peluche )- Tiene varios restaurantes, tiendas, gimnasio. Incluso tenía un vagón de monoriél que rodeaba el exterior del hotel por el segundo piso, para ir de una torre a otra. Se ve muy divertido desde afuera, En general es un hotel muy divertido. Circus Circus ocupa como cuatro cuadras en el centro de la ciudad y está conectado con otros dos grandes hoteles: Silver Legacy y El Dorado. El servicio es muy bueno, la gente fue muy amable, divertida y acogedora.
(Nota: Si van al Circus Circus, cenen una vez en el Steakhouse Restaurant, ¡Es Excelente!)


You can Walk around in the center of the city and see Truckee river, In weekends, people get into the river to beat the sun. Nearby there is place to ride bikes, go to the movies, shop and have dinner. Reno Envy  Is on the same way and is the perfect tourist store, you can get free maps and magazines. I was astonished by the kindness and the variety of the people in the city, everyone was so smiley, welcoming and willing to help.
Se puede caminar en el centro de la ciudad y ver el río Truckee. Los fines de semana, la gente entra al río para combatir el sol. Cerca hay lugar para andar en bicicleta, ir al cine, ir de compras y cenar. Reno Envy queda por el camino y es una tienda turística en la que puedes tomar revistas y mapas gratis. Me quedé asombrado por la amabilidad y la variedad de las personas en la ciudad.

I was like a block away from Walgreens, I could go walking and indulge a little. But eventually I noticed there wasn't a lot of people walking in the streets, these were filled mostly by cars. And I totally get it because everything too far from everything, the entire little big city is submerged in a sea of freeways, which makes it almost unwalkable away from the center of it. This was the main reason we rented a car, with a GPS. Along the fact that most of the days we planed to go to Squaw Valley / Olympic Valley C.A. But we will talk about that in another post.

El hotel estaba como a una cuadra de Walgreens, así que podía ir caminando y comprar algunas cosas. Pero me di cuenta de que no había mucha gente caminando por las calles, éstas se llenan principalmente de carros. Lo cual entiendo perfectamente, porque todo demasiado lejos de todo, La pequeña gran ciudad está sumergida en un mar de autopistas, lo que hace que sea imposible andar a pie fuera del centro. Esta fue la razón principal por la que alquilamos un coche, con un GPS. Junto al hecho de que la mayoría de los días nos propusimos ir a Squaw Valley / Olympic Valley CA Pero vamos a hablar de eso en otro post.

PS: If you're planning going to reno, be prepared for drinking a lot of water  and using moisturizers, because the humidity is very low (like 15%).
PS: Si van a Reno, tomen mucha agua y usen cremas hidratantes, ya que la humedad es muy baja (como 15%).
